We had a GREAT time at the 2nd Annual Grady's Paddle for SickKids!

Once again the communities of Burk's Falls, Magnetawan, Katrine and Emsdale came through in spades with their support of our paddle, all the outfitters involved made sure we had great prizes and boats to paddle in, the volunteers ran everything in such a wonderful fashion and you, the participants, were the cherry on our cake! Actually, you were the cherry, the icing and the sprinkles... you raised $41,581.50 for the CCCU as SickKids Hospital! Congratulations and Oh My Goodness, Thank you!

The day was a success for other reasons as well. I know, you say, how many other ways could the day possibly have succeeded? Well, let me tell you about it. In what seems to be turning into something of a tradition of good deeds, Irene Frechette (our grand prize winner of a Swift Kiwassa Kayak) has already made good use of her kayak. Irene saved a man from drowning on her way home not 5 minutes from the Lions Club Park in Magnetawan and last year's grand prize winner, Joan Robinson, donated her kayak to a burn camp close to her heart. Holy Cow. All I can say is that I'm so grateful to all the people who went out there and did their best to fill their pledge sheets, I'm so warmed by the display of true community that I keep seeing in our beautiful area and I'm so immensely proud of our grand prize winners that there are hardly words to say it properly. Please, everyone, pat yourselves on the back, pat each other on the back but whatever you do, however you do it, know that your are SO GREATLY APPRECIATED... and come back next year! Keep July 14th open in your datebooks!

Well, everyone, once again you've outdone yourselves! We had a fantastic turnout this year at the 2nd Annual Grady's Benefit For SickKids and raised another fabulous $6700.00 that will go directly to the CCU at SickKids Hospital. Once again the Almost Hip made us feel like we were really in 'Bobcaygeon' and Gator Teds put on such a wonderful spread that most of us felt like we really should have been rolling out at the end of the night rather than walking! Thankyou from the bottom of our hearts to everyone who attended our event again, donated their products and services to our silent auction table and also those who helped the evening go smoothly by MC-ing, bar tending and helping at the front door. It is your unending support and generosity that fills our hearts and enables our community to make a significant, tangible contribution to the care of the children at SickKids Hospital. Just days before the concert this year the foundation told us that the Critical Care Unit needed a portable ECMO machine and that it was within the budget of Grady's Gift to purchase it for them. So we did! Congratulations everyone.... your donation dollars just made SickKids one of the few hospitals on this continent able to transport a critically ill patient to or from the hospital by ambulance or helicopter while on this incredibly complex machine.

For more information about the ECMO machine click here and give yourself a pat on the back, you've made something really important happen and we're so excited about it!!

Well, the first annual Grady's Paddle for SickKids is over and it was an astonishing success! It feels like everyone from Burk's Falls to Magnetawan (and every where in between) left their own mark on the day and made the whole event a perfect example of compassion and support for SickKids Hospital and it's patients.

Our deepest and most heartfelt thanks go out to every single business that supported us, every volunteer who donated their time and each and every paddler who took the time and made the effort to gather pledges and paddle down the river with us. Paddlers young and old donated birthday presents, canvassed their classmates, waitressed and organized baseball tournaments in an effort to fill in their pledge sheets... and fill them in they did! You all raised 44,559.52! Each and every penny that you worked so hard to raise is going straight to where it belongs, the kids of the CCCU. We're so proud of you! Thank you, congratulations and we're looking forward to doing it all over again next July 9th!

See you next year!

Thank you so much for your support of Grady's Gift Benefit Concert. The entire night was such fun for everyone involved…we hope to see you again next year! Thanks to your generosity, on September 18th, 2009, we were able to raise over $7270.00. The funds we raised will be going toward the renovation of the parent overnight rooms (including their washroom) in the CCCU at SickKids Hospital in Toronto. The parent room portion of our project has just been completed. Thanks to people like you, the parents of some of the very sickest children at SickKids Hospital are sleeping on real beds in rooms that have been designed specially to help them stay calm and strong as they support their ailing children. You've made a very real difference in their lives right now. Thank you!

Warmest Regards,
Jennifer and Kevin King
